Keynote News, An Open Bar and a word or two about Football…

Please check out the most recent updates to our keynotes page. We’ve got news about Hito Steyerl’s keynote on Saturday, June 30th and, more pressing, news about Simon Critchley’s keynote tomorrow night (June 28th) at ICI Berlin. For those of you worried about missing the football match: fear not. The talk will start a bit earlier (7:30; doors at 7:00) and will finish in time to allow those who’d like to to get a drink from the open bar and settle in to watch the game (we’ll be screening it after the talk). For those who’d prefer the ambience of the game without the nail-biting play-by-play, stick around to enjoy the rooftop patio and, yes, the open bar. Entrance is limited; donations can be made online here or at the door. See you tomorrow night!

With the conference less than a month away, we’re making some changes to the website to more accurately reflect all that we will be. We’ve also made an event on facebook that you can use to invite your friends and contacts to the keynote talks or the conference as a whole. Updates will be posted both here and there. We’ve put together a list of options for accommodation here. When you get to Berlin, you’ll find posters of us everywhere: on street poles and in cafes and in your hostels. The line-up of presenters is looking thrilling and we plan to invite everyone we know!

Our Programme

Our programme is starting to take shape, but we must hold our breath a wee bit longer: final registrations from both artists and academics are due in by May 30.

After that, we’ll be able to set out our programme and will be posting it here for your perusal. For now, just know that you can look forward not only to talks by Hito Steyerl and Simon Critchley but also to art installations and video projections; academic talks on miniature tents, Occupy silk-screens, museums; and much much more.

In the meantime, in honor of the fact that two of our team have been proudly educated in the institutions (and on the streets) of Quebec, we thought we’d share news of student protests in Montreal which today, in defiance of new anti-protest (anti-democracy) laws, swelled in numbers to at least 200,000. Not bad for a city of only three million!
